The annual WP Open 2023 took place at WPCC from 16-19th April 2023. The tournament normally takes place mid-season but this year, the dates were pushed up in the SA Squash Calendar season, to the weekend before our WPS 2023 league commenced. Despite this, we had a record number of entries with over 73 Men and 27 Women participating from our WPS affiliated clubs. UCT Squash Club led the way with 22 entries, followed by WPCC with 20. VOB Squash had 11 players entered, Maties Sport with 8 entries, VSC - Villager Squash Club with 7 and Durbanville Squash Club with 6.
#2 seed Karen Schultz (WPCC), took on the #1 seed Milnay Louw (Welgemoed), but it was a one-sided affair with Milnay winning in straight sets 11-2, 11-7, 11-5 to capture her 9th WP Open title. In a rollercoaster match with both players having match balls, the #6 seed Lawrence Kuhn (Free State) overcame #1 Mighael Lombard (WPCC) 11-5, 11-5, 6-11, 10-12, 12-10.
